About Gardening Math
Plan your garden with real numbers.
What Gardening Math Is
GardeningMath publishes practical calculators and educational resources designed to help gardeners plan with clearer numbers.
Seed packets, plant tags, and forums often give slightly different spacing and quantity advice, and rarely explain why. Most of those questions reduce to simple formulas: bed area divided by plant spacing, germination rate applied to a seed count, length × width × depth for soil and mulch, inches of water converted to gallons.
We put those formulas into free calculators, show the math behind every result, and explain it in plain language in our guides — so you can check the numbers yourself and adapt them to your own garden.
How we work
- Calculators show their formulas and run in your browser; nothing you enter is stored.
- Articles cite a public source, such as a university extension service, where one applies.
- Product recommendations are based on published specs and how they fit the math. We say so when we haven’t tested something hands-on.
- The site is supported by Amazon affiliate links; see our affiliate disclosure.

Our Values
The principles behind every calculator and guide we publish.
Precision
We show the formula, not just the answer, so you can adapt it to your own garden.
Practicality
Every calculator is built to answer one question: what should I actually do this week?
Plain Language
No jargon-only explanations. If a formula needs a worked example to make sense, we walk through the numbers step by step.
